About Us 

The Barwaaqo Project, funded by the World Bank and chaired by the Ministry of Planning and National Development, is dedicated to enhancing water, agriculture, livestock and environmental services in rural Somaliland. As part of the Somaliland Water for Rural Resilience Project, Barwaaqo aims to improve water accessibility, support sustainable agriculture, and mitigate the impact of climate change.

 

Our mission is to empower communities by developing resilient water infrastructure, promoting modern farming techniques, and restoring degraded land. The project collaborates with key government ministries, including Water Resource Development, Environment and Climate Change, Agriculture Development, and Livestock and Rural Development, ensuring a holistic approach to rural development.

 

With a strong focus on sustainability and community participation, Barwaaqo is committed to enhancing livelihoods, strengthening local institutions, and fostering long-term resilience against environmental challenges.

The Community Investment Plan

The Community Investment Plan (CIP) promotes inclusive, sustainable development by involving all social groups, including women, minorities, and vulnerable populations like seasonal pastoralists and water users. The plan emphasizes active community participation throughout the process, ensuring their voices shape decisions. Adopting a strengths-based approach, the CIP focuses on the community's aspirations for the next 5-10 years, assessing available resources and identifying steps to reach these goals. The Barwaaqo project aims to improve water access, build resilient livelihoods, and reduce climate vulnerability, ensuring community-driven development.

Suggestions, concerns and feedback are welcomed by the Barwaaqo project to improve its performance.  These can be communicated to project staff or via 9292 or sent to: [email protected] , In the case of complaints relating to GBV these should be communicated immediately to 9292 or emailed to: [email protected] 


All grievances will be treated confidentially, impartially and without retribution and can be submitted anonymously if required. GBV/SEAH complaints will be dealt with by the GBV Expert using a survivor centric approach.  Grievances will be acknowledged within 7 days of receipt and resolved within 21 days including feedback to the complainant.
